Amongst the two religious festivals in Islam called Eid, Eid al Adha is called the “Bari Eid”. It falls later on, usually after 2 months and 10 days right after Eid ul Fitr. The point of celebrating Eid al Adha 2019 basically is to remember the sacrifice of Prophet Abraham that he was about to make by sacrificing his own son on the orders of Allah Almighty. We as Muslims sacrifice an animal in order to keep the incident fresh in our heads as that actually helps every year in going back to our roots and seeing how the prophets and their companions/families were willing to do so much and that too, on just one mere order.
Eid al Adha Celebrations 2019
Eid al Adha 2019 is celebrated on the 10th day of the Islamic Lunar month called Zilhaj. This year, according to the regular calendar, the tentative date of Eid al Adha is going to be Sunday 11th, August 2019 and as the Muslims celebrate the festival of Eid for three days it will go till the 15th of August 2019 it is a national holiday on the Edi day in all Muslim countries. This does not mean that Muslims living in non-Muslim countries do not celebrate this eid with fervor. They have their own fun way of celebrating the Eid and they are also very particular about offering the Eid namaaz in the Mosque.
Many people believe in throwing large family dinners on Eid al Adha 2019 as they have sacrificed an animal and in order to spread the happiness and follow the orders of Allah Almighty, the meat has to be distributed amongst family members and the needy. This basically inculcates the feeling of feeling for others in Muslims and they feel that it is not only them but there are others who are living a harder life and would need to eat that meat which they normally would not get.
There is also a concept of Eidi which is basically that the elders of the family give money to the kids. Most people follow this tradition on Eid al Fitr but there are some families and clans that do it even on Eid al Adha too. Thus automatically becomes interesting for the younger lot as they feel extremely happy and proud in receiving money form their elders. They even compete with their cousins and friends to see who has the most Eidi collection.
Like Choti Eid, Eid al Adha is also a time of rejoicing with your family and friends and on this Eid day too, the men go for Eid prayers in a mosque. There they get to meet and greet each other by wishing each other a happy Eid. The general eid greeting is “Eid Mubarak” all across the globe (in the Muslim world and non-Muslim also, as they just say it in their language).
New clothes, bangles, henna application are also some of the other major attraction for young girls on this Eid day too and the preparations start way before the time.
